Endnote Help: Endnote will not open after installing it on a Mac

Answer

When you attempt to open Endnote after installing it on a Mac all you see is a small box that shows the Endnote logo. The only thing you will be able to click on is the acknowledgments tab, do not click on this tab. You are encountering this problem because sometimes after installation on a Mac, Endnote will not open until a Library has been created for it.

To do this:

  • If you have Endnote open, quit out of it.
  • Go into your downloads and open Endnote; when in that folder you should see several different files, double-click on the Endnote one.
  • When you do this, on the top left-hand corner of the screen the word Endnote should pop up.
  • File should also be at the top of the screen beside Endnote.
  • Click into File and the very top option should be New not New folder. If it says New folder you have gone wrong with previous steps.
  • Click into New and a window should pop up which will prompt you to name a Library for Endnote. Name and save this library. Do not save it to Onedrive; save it to your desktop or documents.
  • Alternatively, if you’re using an existing Library, click on File then Open to Open an existing library.
  • Once you’ve done this, Endnote should open immediately.
