What can I do when the latest edition of ebook I need is already checked out?

Answer

This is fairly rare as the library monitors ebooks usage and responds with additional copies when there’s high demand. However, at the busiest time of the semester, it could happen.

  • If it’s for an assignment you’re working on and another book will do: Go to the Library catalogue (URL: https://uol.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/discovery/search?vid=353UOL_INST:353UOL_VU1&sortby=rank)  and see if there’s an older version of the book.
    • Page numbers may be different and certain chapters or case studies might have been updated in later editions, but often there is very little difference between editions.
  • Don’t assume it’s you or a mistake you’re making, always let us know. Please notify the Library immediately (email libinfo@ul.ie) and tell us the module code and book name.
  • Tell your lecturer if it’s an exam situation or there’s an impending deadline, they may be able to suggest an alternative book to the class.
